Members of the GAC are required to declare that a significant portion of their business is from consulting services.

The GAC, as an umbrella body for consultants in all professions has defined seven major sections as follows:

  • Association of Consulting Engineers
  • Association of Consulting Architects
  • Association of Consulting Planning
  • Association of Consulting Surveyors
  • Association of Consulting Legal Practitioners
  • Association of Consulting Accountants
  • Association of Recognized Professional Bodies

    It is also mandatory that members of the GAC comply with the Professional Code of Conduct and List of Standard Practices for quality consultants.

Qualification for Joining
The GAC in consultation with the PIAs has established four skill levels for all
professionals in Ghana with a view to harmonizing the respective skills within this multi disciplinary environment.
Only professionals who have obtained skill level 4 are qualified to join the GAC

Level - 1 Introductory Skills
This is the introductory skill level and, requires only a University Degree or the equivalent for the particular profession. It assumes that the ‘professional’ has been introduced to the basic concepts of the academic requirements of the profession.

Level - 2 Basic Skills
This level assumes that the professional, in addition to the basic academic qualification has acquired the basic professional skills in his or her particular. This would be the entrance or admission requirements for the various PIAssuch as the Ghana Bar Association’s call to the Bar, enrollment by the Ghana Medical Association, the Ghana Institution of Engineers, Ghana Institute of Architects, etc..

Level - 3 Intermediate Skills
In this skill category, the professional is expected to work without assistance. He or she should be capable of assisting others. He or she should be capable of initiating and negotiating, as well as identifying critical success factors. He or she must be capable of proposing and implementing solutions, and identify strengths and exposures in the field of his endeavour. 

Level - 4 Advanced or Consulting Skills
The professional at this has consulting skills, and can be recognised as an authority and technical advisor for both his or her clients as well as the profession. He or she must be capable of developing leading-edge, one-of-a-kind solutions, and be able to justify economically, such complex solutions. He or she must possess the skills and expertise to direct and lead others in the technical aspects and marketing of the profession; he must possess the skills and expertise to lead in problem determination and resolution activities, and above all be able to resolve critical situations.
